We have a little family project going on here at the Kelly household. Last year while we were in the thick of the adoption process and wondering who this new little Kelly was going be it was quite the emotional roller coaster. One of my good friends suggested I write a children’s book about the process that we could read to our future child. I thought this was a Jesus-inspired idea so I took my notebook to the prayer room and started writing. It was not only an idea for Joshua’s benefit in the future, but for my heart in the midst of the emotional season that comes with pursuing adoption. So I wrote a fun little story about our adoption process but it didn’t have an ending because we were still waiting. And it didn’t have any illustrations even though I married a highly talented illustrator, because the story wasn’t done.
This past week for my birthday Jason surprised me with a sketchbook of drawings for our future book, “The Search for Baby Bobo”. And that inspired me to finish off the story now that we know how it ends. Illustrating a children’s book takes a lot longer than writing it, so it will probably be an ongoing project for awhile. I just wanted to share my excitement with y’all. We hope to not only print it to give to Joshua but also to have it published for other adoptive families who want to use it to discuss adoption with their children. We’ll keep you posted as we work on it, but here’s a little preview of what one of the pages might one day have on it…

This is an awesome idea. When copies are available, could I buy one from you? Kara, I can only imagine the heart and passion you will put into story, and I never knew Jason could draw so well. What an exciting project you can do together!
