Now that we’re back in town it’s time for us to start working on our homestudy. Getting the homestudy done is the first step in the adoption process. Basically, we get to write a novella about ourselves- everything from our past history, our current lives, our opinions on discipline, how we’re going to deal with issues that adoption brings up, and more. It’s a big fat stack of paperwork! And then we have homestudy interviews where they ask us more questions and come visit our house to make sure everything is safe, etc.

There’s a lot of things to think through and decide on: what kind of relationship do we want with the birth family? what form of discipline will we use in parenting? if the child is of another race how do we plan to deal with issues that will inevitably arise? how will we help them through potential rejection issues as they process through their adoption? what kinds of issues and disabilities are we open to?

We’d appreciate your prayers in this process- that we would have insight and wisdom as we answer all these questions and think through all the issues involved. And that we would follow the Lord’s leading every step of the way!
