Costs
How much will the adoption cost?
While we won’t know the entire cost of our upcoming adoption until all is said and done we do know it will cost anywhere between $12,000-$30,000.
Why is adoption so expensive?
There are a number of factors of why adoption costs so much. Even though it costs a big chunk of change, believe it or not, no one’s getting rich off of this. Much of the cost goes to paying social workers, adoption agency employees, lawyers and medical costs. It takes a lot of people to make an adoption happen- from the homestudy to caring for birth mothers to making sure everything is done legally.
Why fundraise for an adoption?
While we would love to save the money to pay for an adoption out of pocket, at our salary this is simply not realistic. Many people raise money for adoptions because of the high cost.
We feel like adoption is not only a wonderful way to grow our family, but it is also one of the ministries God has called us to. It’s not just about getting a baby (although we do hope that’s the end result!) It’s so much more. It’s about offering an alternative to abortion. It’s about loving someone in a difficult situation (aka. an unplanned pregnancy). It’s about caring for the orphan before they ever even become an orphan. It’s about compassion. It’s about raising up a lover of God who will impact the next generation for Christ. So, with that in mind, we are inviting our friends and family to partner with us in this ministry and help us make a difference in the life of a birth mom and in the life of a child.
How can I give?
Make your check out to Tekoa 211 and mail it to us (The Kellys • 8204 E. 103rd Terrace • Kansas City, MO 64134). Tekoa 211 is a couple of awesome adoption-lovin’ folk who have created a non-profit so that families like us can offer a tax deductible way of giving. All the money give will go towards our adoption. Also, please do not write our names on the check.
What ways will you raise money?
• We are planning a fundraising dinner where we share our heart for adoption as well as have a fun silent auction. It will be in late February or early March.
• We have created some fun tshirts that we will be selling. Keep your eyes peeled, they’ll be on the blog soon!
• We will apply for a gift-matching grant once our homestudy is completed.
• We will continue to update friends and family through our blog and people may choose to give just from reading our blog.
There’s no way around it, adoption is expensive. But, we believe it’s worth it.
